-- About Western Trails Description -->
Located in the heart of the Deep Creek Lake area, Western Trails Stable has
been offering trail rides to the public since opening in 1970. Founder
Fredlock Schenk (right) and his son Larry ran the horse farm along with
a dairy barn. In the 1970's camping was added as were local horse
shows. Visitors who have been coming back for years have watched the
third generation owner, Gene grow up on the farm.
Today he lives on the farm with his wife and three children. He has added
horse related services such as breeding, training, and lessons, and
still offers the favorites: trail riding, hay rides and hand led pony
rides.
Today we offer Trail riding, Lessons, hand led pony rides and group hay
rides. We have a large variety of horses including Appaloosas, paints,
quarter horses, Belgium's, and pintos as well as draft horses. While on the
trail you may see whitetail deer or wild turkey. The open fields and
undeveloped mountain side offer views of Deep Creek Lake. Our one hour
trail ride is 4 miles long and the terrain varies from open fields to a
wooded mountain side with an old apple orchard.
We are open all year and welcome all ages and experience levels to come
visit us for a trail ride. Our Stable is located in the heart of the
Deep Creek Lake area. Make sure to bring your camera. You will want to
share your memories with friends..
